Our Story

We founded the camps in 2019 to serve  our own students who had been priced out of the college campus camps. We wanted to provide a learning environment that was fun, rigorous and produced results.

In the last five years we've grown from a regional camp to one that now attracts students and coaches nationally.

Curriculum

The Championship Academy ("Champ Camps") offers students the chance to train with championship-winning coaches, collegiate competitors, local attorneys, and faculty from the innovative UNT Dallas College of Law. These camps provide top-tier instruction to prepare students for the upcoming mock trial tournament season, using modified Federal Rules of Evidence from the ABA's national competition.

The camps feature novice, intermediate, and advanced tracks to match students' skill levels, with options for both commuter and residential (overnight) participants. All campers enjoy a hot lunch catered from local restaurants.

Program Structure

  • Our program features interactive lectures, legal advocacy drills, and real-world courtroom simulations to sharpen competitive skills.

Faculty and Teaching Philosophy

  • Our faculty includes championship coaches, collegiate competitors, attorneys, and legal educators.
  • The Championship mock trial camps focus on building critical thinking, public speaking, and legal knowledge. College and law students serve as primary instructors, leveraging the proven benefits of near-peer mentoring for effective learning.

Stop-and-Go Scrimmages

  • Scrimmages provide hands-on practice with real-time feedback (aka stop-n-go) to improve courtroom performance.

Tracks and Accommodations

  • We offer tailored tracks for all skill levels: novice, intermediate, and      advanced. Campers can choose commuter or residential options, with      overnight stays at the historic Indigo Hotel in Dallas.

Competitive Mini-Tournament

  • The program ends with a tournament judged by legal professionals, offering real-competition experience.

Coach’s Camp

  • We also offer a coach’s camp with daily seminars on team building, practice      strategies, and competition preparation.

The coach's camp runs concurrently with the student camp, the coach's camp is designed to be the premiere intensive professional development for mock trial teachers. Want to better understand the evidentiary arguments your students hear in competition rounds? Struggling to come up with a way to help your student fix that one subtle problem that keeps her from excelling at tournaments? Hungry for the chance to “talk shop” with other mock trial coaches? Then the Coach’s Camp is for you!

The camp offers the opportunity to experience mock trial camp from a student’s perspective while collaborating with fellow professionals about the best ways to teach critical mock trial kills. The program will aim to comprehensively cover and drill the skills most used in mock trial. There will be lectures on these skills followed by practice with actually doing relevant drills. Such practice will be followed by learning how to implement these drills with students, including work on developing targeted and comprehensive lesson plans for building mock trial skills.

We anticipate being able to offer 40 hours of TEA approved professional development. Coaches will also receive a complimentary t-shirt, trial notebook and lunch.
